I undertake work on the following basis:
Fixed fee arrangements
Using this type of arrangement gives you a set amount that you will need to pay for the work I am instructed to do. Where the fixed fee is agreed, that fee will be payable before any work is started.*
Hourly rate arrangements
I will give you an estimate of the number of hours it will take together with my estimated costs. My hourly rate ranges from £250 plus VAT to £300 plus VAT an hour.
Conditional fee arrangements.
This package may be dependent on whether you win your case. For example, our agreement may be that if you do not win, you do not have to pay me as your barrister, or you may have to pay a smaller fixed amount and only need to pay the rest if you win. Please note that I seldom offer this service.
*If you decide to instruct me as your barrister, I will make it clear at the outset how you will be charged and what it will cost. There will be no hidden surprises.
If my charges are not clear at any stage, please feel free to ask my clerks or me further questions to make sure you understand my charges.
Where I agree with a fixed fee or an hourly rate arrangement, please be aware that there may be a possibility of additional fees falling due if the work takes longer than first anticipated. For example, if there is new evidence that I must consider or if the matter becomes more involved or complicated. No further fees will be charged without agreement.
